And the scene did not disappoint, especially from the first row, when it happened 2 feet in front of me. I remember my heart rate was elevated, and I felt flushed and light-headed.
Happened again this morning when I came across these photos. Damn him. I can hardly type when I look at these.

What I’d really like to know is – how did those people (well the women at least) manage to remain in their seats while he did that? A friend sent them to me last night and I was rendered speechless – even though I admit sounds came out of my mouth. I’m afraid I might have embarrassed myself if I had been in such close proximity to all that masculine beauty. *frantically fanning self while gasping for breath*

I can only speak for myself, but I was feeling so shaky and light-headed I doubt if I could have moved from my seat even if I’d wanted to. And there were audible gasps. I don’t remember if any were from me. Lol

Yes – I can see that being rooted to the spot would have been a likely reaction! 🙂 “Shaky and lightheaded” would have described me I think!! He has had that effect on me on various occasions and that is only in pictures, TV or the at the movie theatre! Didn’t Richard say on the Andrew Marr Show that the audience “gasp and sigh in all the right places.”? No doubt this was one of those times! 😉
Because I live in Canada there seems to be no chance of ever seeing The Crucible in a theatre which I had at one point believed we would. Watching it on a small screen when we can download it will not be the same but I guess I/we have to learn to live with it. 😦 If only TPTB who hold the rights would relent and let those of us in North America join the rest of the world in sharing this unbelievable experience even though we might have to wait a long time to do so. I get quite upset when I think how this privilege is denied us.

RE: The Crucible in Theatres… definitely wrong-headed of them not to renegotiate. I don’t know why they wouldn’t/couldn’t share in any profit to be made, and those of us in North America shouldn’t have to suffer in envy. I really am incredibly grateful that it was filmed at all, but I did want to have the big screen experience, and share it with friends and family. Grrrrrh.

sigh… i didn’t have this perspective in the house as never sat that side and mostly sat further away but once i was close just right hand side slightly behind so saw him when he turned around. But i tell you what actually hits you is the soft almost lost expression in his eyes when he turns and sees her.. sigh (but have to applaud DT for the way this scene was filmed, it is soo beautiful, probably the most beautiful perspective possible)

Mmmm. Those eyes. He’s a master at conveying the subtlest of emotions. I have to know… in the DT film, could you hear the little noises Proctor made as he washed? Because for me, that was part of what made the scene so intimate and beautiful.

Little? Oh they are much more prominent here! He’s sighing grunting, the lot it’s very earthy and at the same time sad as he seems to be weighed down by the weight of the world there Very touching

Those of you who experienced this scene in RL are SO fortunate. I have to admit to being more than a little envious of you all! 🙂 The very idea of “the sounds” just gets to me. I can hardly *wait* to hear them for myself. I came to realize some time ago that I can pick out the various sounds that Richard makes, when he is acting or narrating, from what else is being. I think it happens because I find myself very familiar with his voice – it really is unique and distinctive – and no doubt because I listen to it over and over!! 😉

Yes… RA’s narrations have the most bookmarks in all my audiobook files. The way he delivers some lines is just too exquisite for words!

totally with you on that, the more the voice becomes familiar to me the more i’m fascinated by it’s shades and also all his expressions, not necessarily words 🙂 In all honesty the scene is better realised in the cinema version than i was ever able to see it live, because i wasn’t really that close, not was i able to see all perspectives so actually we’ll all be able to enjoy more of it once the download becomes available 🙂 let it be soon! 😉
