Update and Miscellaneous Speculations: Armitage in Berlin

Can't Stop Now

I’ve been super busy!

So it’s been over a week since I posted anything here! It’s always a hectic time of year for me, and a bit of a rollercoaster. Last week I had to travel for a veterinary conference, and I’ve been occupied with a quilting project on my off time. This weekend I had to navigate a sticky situation involving a bit of holiday resentment between my Mom and Hubby’s mother. And then I had to help Mom frantically clean her house in preparation for the upcoming Thanksgiving get-together. This is because Mom and I mutually employ an occasional housecleaner, who was supposed to come and clean in advance of company, but we learned over the weekend that she had been arrested and charged with a felony (grand larceny from a house), which didn’t inspire confidence, even if she does get out of jail in time to clean for Mom. Damn it all! Mom and I both wished she’d gotten herself arrested AFTER Thanksgiving, but oh well.

Berlin Tweet

Cute picture of both RA and Jessi!

On to Richard! Well I confess I couldn’t help but speculate a bit on the good old Are They or Aren’t They Question when a fan helpfully mentioned @RCArmitage and @leepace in the same tweet. Is Lee Pace generally “too shy” to do photo-ops with fans, or was he hoping to keep his evening with Richard in Berlin on the down-low, given the popularity/notoriety of that ship? If so, that didn’t work out so well for him, did it?

From the barrage of questions tweeted at her, it sounds like both actors were very gracious, and certainly Richard was his typical kind and obliging self, agreeing to stop and take the picture when not at any kind of official event. Gotta love him for his general fan-friendly attitude.

I don’t know whether I’ve ever publicly said anything about this topic, but certainly I’ve thought about it on occasion. For me, it hardly matters except as a curiosity. It does seem that they are in a committed relationship of one kind or another- either really good friends who try to get together when schedules permit, or more. I warned you in the title this post would contain speculation… but I think I’ll leave it at that.

Berlin Station 1

Thanks to Richard Armitage CN for tweeting these images.

Today I saw a tweet that appears to have a cameraman in the background and claims to be “filming” for Berlin Station. If so, this may be our first glimpse of Daniel Meyer (or is it Daniel Miller? Sources conflict!) and I confess it was a look that I wouldn’t be surprised to see on RA as RA… ball cap, hoodie, snug jeans, and converse-type shoes. I had for some reason expected a CIA analyst to be dressed in a suit or maybe in more nerdy gear, but maybe he’s undercover as a… well… a regular guy with nice thighs on the street.

Berlin Station 2

That’s a hint of stubble that really floats my boat.

I’m seriously in favor of that line of stubble along his cheekbone. And I really dig the determined look in his eye in the closer photo. Dayum. I think it’s safe to say that Berlin Station is going to have its share of eye-candy. I love it when he gets that serious face. Thinking dark thoughts under that hat brim. I’d like a lot more of that. Please.

By the way, it looks like aside from Richard Armitage and Lee Pace, some other pretty big Hollywood names are in Berlin at the moment. Brad Pitt and Matt Damon….

Berlin 2

What’s going on here?

And finally… speculations on the bike. This image was tweeted a few days ago in association with the Berlin Station production, and I think it’s Richard riding as Richard. However, was he testing out a bike he’ll be using later? Will Daniel Meyer/Miller be riding a bike? The costume above certainly wouldn’t preclude some bike riding, and I couldn’t help but notice there was a toppled bike in the background on some of those Getty Images. Coincidence?

Anyway, kind of a fluff-filled post, wasn’t it? I’ll try to think of something a little deeper once I’ve had a little more time to process those thighs. =)

I’m firmly in the “no proof, no truth” camp when it comes to that ship. it’s going to take a lot more than seeing a healthy male friendship to sway me…but in other news: the hat, the hoodie, the bike. yeah, I’m on board with all of those 😀

I won’t argue with that! I think that is the one thing that is clear- they’re good friends, if nothing else! And that’s most likely all we’ll ever know. LOL

It really is a great photo- RA looks happy, and of course the young lady is glowing, too! Berlin Station is going to be awesome- I have a good feeling about it- the script writer is talented as a spy novelist, and the cast has the best in the business. =)

And I second this whole-heartedly, Kelly! 🙂 Thanks for the post! This seems to be a spy worth seeing … 😉

Yes… I wasn’t expecting that to be Daniel’s look at all! (Not complaining!)

What’s wrong with fluff? I love fluff!
I hear ya on that ship speculation, I too wonder out of curiosity. I want them to be able to be themselves, so I hope that if there is something more than friendship between them they would be able to share that without fear of (career) repurcussions. But yeah, for me, I won’t believe anything until it is officially confirmed or I see them kissing or something. I know people around me (in ‘real life’) who are of the same sex who are extremely close and there is nothing romantic going on between them, they are just the best of friends. It really could be just that as well for Richard and Lee. Having said that, I’d be so happy to see Richard happy in love, be it with another man or woman…
And yep, I can very well live with that look! The shoes look a bit like his blue shoes that he also wore to Leeds…
Oooh, and I wonder whether he’ll be hobnobbing with Brad Pitt and Matt Damon – imagine the chances that could bring him!

These are pretty much entirely my sentiments. I can completely understand why they might feel pressured to keep a romantic relationship under wraps, though in an ideal world, they shouldn’t have to. And in the celebrity business, it’s not unheard of to want to keep any relationship quiet, no matter the partner’s gender. I don’t envy anyone that dilemma. The public eye is not a comfortable place to live! All that aside, I do think it’s entirely possible they’re just great friends.

On the ship : Would love him if it is not true ; would love him even more if it were because I think both of them look cute together and also because I would love the fact that he has someone to love. I’m romantic in that way and want everyone to have a special someone :).

I was waiting for someone to comment to those thighs and the tight jeans from morning . Love them totally. 🙂
But the whole getup is rather too grey and dull for me. He can easily blend with the crowd with that outfit. Maybe that is the whole point of it ?

It is a very grey outfit, head to toe… but he looks pretty fine in it! It’s actually physically impossible not to notice his thighs…. LOL

Re: the ship… I agree. IF they are in a romantic relationship, it certainly has lasted for quite a while now, which would just give me the warm fuzzies. I want him to have someone to love, and someone to love him (besides US!)

I’m still waiting and hoping for some reading glasses. I thought perhaps a CIA analyst might be just the ticket for that, but that’s not looking too hopeful now. LOL. Maybe one day….

re: the outfit and the bike, both are not very 1980s Berlin wear. Which doesn’t necessarily mean anything, but isn’t this supposed to be a late Cold War era piece?

Those jeans actually remind of the ones he was wearing in New Zealand in late November 2012.

I was under the impression that it was contemporary Berlin. And yes- those jeans could be right out of his own wardrobe as far as I’m concerned!

Actually one of the screenwriters (Brad Winters) had tweeted the setting would be contemporary.
” Will film in Berlin; contemporary setting.” @thebradwinters on 13 September 2015.
      So no cold war. 😉

If “Daniel” is working undercover, then I doubt he’d be in a suit – depending what his undercover role is. So looking forward to seeing this ….. if we can see it in the UK.
On the speculation stuff – like a lot of you, I keep an open mind. I’m just a bit disappointed that this fan, who was so gracefully allowed a precious pic – forgot both actors love of privacy.

I suspect that may be why Lee wouldn’t allow himself to be photographed as well…. knew the odds this might happen.

That was my thought. Any celebrity is in sort of a catch-22 in this situation. Most likely if they asked specifically not to be tagged, their wishes would be respected. However that might just wind up backfiring- no way to predict what any given fan might do.

You may be right… maybe he’ll have different looks during different episodes? If not, I like this regular guy look well enough…

I wouldn’t want to judge the fan- she may not have known this was a touchy issue, and we have no way of knowing if she asked permission to post on Twitter, etc. That said, you bring up an interesting point in my mind, because if I’d been in her shoes, (and it sounds as if you are of the same tendency) I’d probably not have gone public with news of what he was doing in his off time. Which then makes me have to wonder whether there are more sightings than are publicly known, by fans with a tendency for discretion/privacy.

I don’t think privacy is a relevant concept here. She encountered them on a public street in a public place.

        Yes, Olen confirmed it.

By the way, I have a hunch Lee stopped by on his way back home from Sweden. Stephen Frears’ The Program, which he stars in, was part of the official selection for the 26th Stockholm International Film Festival that closed on Nov 22. Frears got the Lifetime Achievement Award at the festival.

Plus, there’s that long-.lasting Lufthansa strike with thousands of cancelled and reprogrammed flights that has messed up with lots of people’s plans. Maybe he had time to kill away and decided to pay a visit to a good friend who happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Oh, yeah. Several years ago, after Hubby’s grandmother died, Hubby’s aunt and cousin decided they wanted to start doing their own Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays rather than the big family gathering that had been traditional. His mom, who loves to play hostess, was really hurt that a large chunk of family no longer wanted to celebrate at her house, where it traditionally was held. That year and afterwards, my mom has alway invited Hubby’s parents to celebrate with our family. Just a misunderstanding, really. Apparently Hubby’s mom offered to be the hostess for either Thanksgiving or Christmas this year, but my mom thought it would be a lot to ask for her to hostess “our family”- easier for 2 extra people to come to her house than for 9 extra people to go there. Since my mom looks at it as a lot of work and trouble, she thought she was being kind, but she doesn’t realize that Hubby’s mom *lives* for hostessing. Once we convinced my mom that Hubby’s mom sincerely LONGED to be the hostess, she was delighted to share the responsibilities… LOL.

Ah, that’s good news! I’m one of those who would have trouble believing anyone *lives* to host 11 people–but thank goodness such hospitable folk exist 🙂

Well, i don’t particularly care either way 🙂
On principle i believe in ‘stand by your convictions and views of life and don’t hide; the ones who love and care about you will support you and the rest don’t matter’; but i live in London, in the middle of the creative community and where BBC airs London Spy (http://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2015/nov/10/london-spy-tv-review-thriller-love-story). But experience tells me that sadly out there in the world at large personal and creative freedom does not always look like this, so it is down to personal choices.

As to the photo, early days i guess 🙂 My hope is this is an initial look which will evolve. Grey surroundings grey situation, grey clothes… er, yes we get it, it’s ‘grey’ (subtle it isn’t). It’s not a look typical of a European capital in winter, a bit of a fashion statement i guess 😉 Hoodies are not as common past certain ages and people wear actual scarves and hats to cover the ears, so maybe he’ll learn (the character i mean) to blend in better. But then again this is not Spooks 😉 Who knows what they are going for 🙂
(my boss’ son told his dad who was wearing a hooded longish jacket in dark blue – ‘nice women’s jacket dad’ :p)

Thank you! I think we’ve ironed things out! (See my response to Linnet above!) I have my bacon-wrapped green bean bundles, the spicy cranberry sauce, and my holiday apple salad all ready to go. I’m also in charge of the table decorations. And most importantly, Little Sister and I have figured out her wardrobe (she loves to get all dressed up for holiday occasions!) Heading out in a couple of hours for some good old-fashioned feasting! =)
