Thanks for the link. Yes, the more I watch, the more I really like Will’s character. It’s definitely captured my interest, and I even found myself rooting for Hannibal last night, when the other psychopath came to his office to try to kill him. I suppose it’s entirely possible that if I can appreciate Hannibal, I can find myself invested in Dolarhyde… depends on where they take it, of course.

I do. What’s gripping me is the growing relationship between Hannibal and Will, and to a slightly lesser extent,I include Crawford. Two extraordinary and lonely men who seem to have finally, maybe for the first time, found possible friendship. Oh – the shipping that must be out there and that I haven’t seen yet. Like Will, I’m rebelling against Crawford’s continually drawing of him in to the work, when he wants, and needs to be out. I’m hoping season 2, which others say has been done differently – more of the relationships and less of the serial killer of the week, will turn the corner for me.
I find the serial killer of the week parts pretty much done to death in so many other shows. I also see strains of Medium and Unforgettable, though in a much more sophisticated context.
I have more to say. Need to see more.
The sets and photography, and the clothes and food design are all glorious.

Oh, I agree. The visuals are stunning. I’m in love with Hannibal’s wardrobe. I’m also becoming a little easier with the gory bits, which I know some will believe is not cool at all, and they may be right! Same as with The Walking Dead… at this point I actually enjoy the creative ways the design team chooses to kill the walkers (zombies)… Hubby and I find ourselves just shaking our heads and laughing at that, and last night I realized I was shaking my head and smiling at a particularly gruesome murder scene (in the orchestra house)… thinking to myself: WHO comes up with this stuff? =) But just as with every other show I watch, it’s all about the character development in the end, and they’re starting to get there (8 episodes in). I am particularly curious about the character played by Gillian Anderson.

What I appreciate about this more than anything is that the dominant tone seems to be one of welcome and pleasantness. So different from October 2010!

I’m entirely in the dark about October 2010. But yes, I thought it was friendly. It’s entirely possible there will be crossover between the Armitage fandom and the Fannibals after Richard works his magic. I’m not ready to call myself a Fannibal just yet, but I can understand the appeal and why they love the show.

There was a gradual move in his favor beginning with the news conference in February 2011 and then the vlogs, a kind of concession that he really did care a lot about the role. I think most people had come around after seeing AUJ, but there were still a few diehards who were not convinced. Thanks for the link. KatherineD did a fantastic job summarizing all that. I guess I can relate to the feeling of dismay the die-hards had if they truly got their first look at Armitage in that youthful, dated photo and had been fantasy casting older, dwarf-looking actors for years. It WOULD be quite a shock. And I can also relate to being personally invested in a series (Game of Thrones and Outlander) one has known and loved for years, and worrying that a casting mistake would ruin a long-awaited film version for you. I remember that when Daenarys was first cast in Game of Thrones, there was such huge fan outrage that they ended up recasting. I wasn’t a part of any of that, but it sure makes me glad that PJ didn’t cave to fandom uproar…

Supposedly the reason 50 Shades was recast with Jamie Dornan was fan outrage over their first choice (I forget who it was). And Diana Gabaldon intervened regarding the casting of Sam Heughan in Outlander, the fans were so angry. I’m not sure how I feel about it. I’m sympathetic to the general issue from the fan side, but the way that groups whip themselves up into a frenzy is disturbing to observe from the outside.
